Abstract

This chapter sheds light on the pivotal role of Logistics Information Systems (LIS) in today’s dynamic business environment. It emphasizes the interplay of people, processes, and technology in optimizing logistics operations and highlights the Information Systems department’s crucial role. The chapter explores the rationale for investing in LIS and delves into the alignment of corporate strategy with Information Systems. Furthermore, it delves into the transformative potential of becoming a digital enterprise and the impact of Industry 4.0 on logistics, introducing innovative digital-enabled business models, and addressing sustainability and digitalization. It also examines the influence of global events like COVID-19 on accelerating digitalization in logistics and the integral role of technology in modern logistics.
