Abstract

Stability and dynamics have long been studied by economists, and led them to tailor their models to the phenomena observed in the real world. But the origins of these types of analyses are not well-known, as they are often associated with the so-called Keynesian revolution while we go back in this book on the role played by the pioneers of econometrics during the 1930s. We review in this introduction the literature on stability and its policy implications and present the outline of the book. We underline that the purpose of the following chapters is to give a new account of the history of early macroeconomics, through the study of the econometricians’ work.
