Abstract

The interest in sustainability, sustainable development and sustainable transport is growing. Essential topics are the range of definitions of green transportation, identification of barriers, challenges associated with the green analysis, approaches for green transportation (Avoid-Shift-Improve), Green development originally focused on a few issues of innovation technology, but is becoming increasingly broadly defined. A narrow definition of sustainable transport tends to favor individual technological solutions, while a broader definition favors more integrated solutions, including improved travel opportunities, economic incentives, institutional reforms, and technological innovation. Some well-known successful stories of the ASI strategy were presented. The general intelligent transportation system (ITS) regarding principle and application of ITS, infrastructure management, and advanced traffic management system were presented. Several green technologies (GT) including energy efficient technology, alternative fuel vehicle, eco-friendly technology, transport technology and solar impulse and energy reuse technologies should be developed and deployed to achieve the goals of green transportation. Implementation of green technologies, the pricing and financing of transport, integrated transport and land use planning for transport should be coordinated and cooperated with the relevant authorities in order to construct cost-effective plans and achieving green transportation for carbon neutrality. Building sustainable transportation infrastructure demonstrates its high performance of energy-efficiency and material-efficiency which should be validated by LCA model from engineering, environmental, economic and energy (4E) aspects.
