Abstract

Employing social exchangeTheory theorySocial exchange theory (SET), theAbu Dhabi University presentAcademic Programs for Military Colleges research aimed to comprehend how top management’s commitment to green human resource managementGreen Human Resource Management methods and sustainabilitySustainability impacted employeeEmployee green behaviorsGreen behavior in the higher education sectorHigher education sector of the United Arab EmiratesUnited Arab Emirates. Using a self-administered questionnaire, data were gathered from employeesEmployee of higher education institutionsHigher education institutions in the UAE, including academicAcademics and administrative staff members. Four hundred and twelve questionnaires were disseminated, of which 202 were employed for statistical analysis. Partial leastPartial least squares squares-structural equation modeling was employed to assess the hypotheses. The results indicated that top management greenTop management green commitment commitmentGreen commitment (TMGC) and green human resources management (GHRM) significantly predicted green employeeEmployee extra-role and in-role behavior and green creativityGreen creativity. The findings offer education policymakers insights about how TMGCTop management green commitment and GHRM can support employeeEmployee green behaviorsGreen behavior and green creativityGreen creativity. The study will aid in developing policies to promote an organization’sOrganizations adoption of GHRM practices by expanding knowledge about how HRMHuman resource management may contribute to efficient environmental management. This study is novel for three main reasons. First, this research adds to the GHRM literature in general. Second, it adds to the scant literature concerning GHRM in higher education. Third, the introduction of GC as a consequence of TMGCTop management green commitment and GHRM is a unique contribution.
