Global Development with National Population and Education

This chapter, Global Economic Development with National Population Changes and Education, develops a dynamic general equilibrium model with endogenous wealth, population, and gender-differentiated human capital for any number of countries with free trade. The global economy consists of any number of national economies and each national economy is composed of the industrial sector and education sector. The model is to integrate some dynamic models in economic theory. It is organized as follows: Sect. 12.1 constructs the multi-country growth model with national education. Section 12.2 examines the dynamic properties of the model. Section 12.3 shows how the system changes its motion when the propensities to have children are reduced. Section 12.4 shows the motion of the system when the middle-income and developing economies have higher mortality. Section 12.5 examines how the system is affected when men change their hours on taking care of each child. Section 12.6 plots the path of the system when women in the world apply human capital more effectively. Section 12.7 studies the impact of a rise in the industrial sector’s total factor productivity. Section 12.8 demonstrates the effects of a change in the propensities to save. Section 12.9 shows how the system is affected when the pecuniary costs per child are changed. Section 12.10 examines the impact of a rise in men’s propensities to enjoy leisure. Section 12.11 deals with the effects of an improvement in women’s efficiency in accumulating human capital.
