Abstract

Work has become an important aspect of health related quality of life of the working population, and work has also become a major public health risk. In this context, the health related targets of the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs) are highlighted in SDG 3 to promote health and wellbeing for all, including working population. Sustainable HRM has an important role in organisational HR systems and policies for a healthy work organization. Healthy work organisation as a perspective highlights the work-health relationships beyond the individual employee-job interactions to provide an organizational level influence. The healthy workplace advocates for positive health through a proactive approach to identify work related lead indicators of psychological disorders and chronic disease to enhance the prospects of positive wellbeing. In this chapter, to understand the integral role of sustainable work conditions (SDG 8) to improve occupational health and wellbeing (SDG 3) as part of organization sustainability efforts the perspective of interactions of business-health and SDGs is explained. Hence, business activities (including work practices) and health interaction are explored to identify the work related leading indicators as a new approach to tackle the health challenges for stakeholders to shape an organisation’s business-health agenda for the social sustainability outcome.
