Enhancing Student Satisfaction in Online Learning: An Empirical Study During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the key determinants influencing the satisfaction of university students in Vietnam with online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Employing a mixed-method approach involving both qualitative and quantitative techniques, the study unfolded in two sequential phases: an initial exploratory phase and a subsequent comprehensive investigation. During the preliminary phase, data were collected through observations involving 100 students, in addition to two group discussions encompassing 20 students and four lecturers. These activities were designed to unveil the factors and variables that constitute the scales utilized in the study. The subsequent main research phase involved a survey method administered to 186 students, aimed at validating the scales and testing the research model. Specifically, multivariable linear regression analysis was employed to discern and quantify the factors impacting students’ satisfaction with online learning. The findings of this study reveal five factors that influence student satisfaction, including Possession of personal electronic devices, Reliable access to internet connectivity, Effectiveness of online learning methods, Content suitability for online learning, and Instructor-student interaction. These insights not only provide a valuable framework for enhancing and innovating the quality of online learning for universities and education policymakers but also empower students to identify relevant factors and make necessary adjustments to enhance their online learning.
