Abstract

Nowadays, the majority of nations worldwide aim to achieve green economic development (GED). Given the industrial revolution's backdrop 4.0, the digital economy (DE) and technological innovation (TI) play an important role as the main drivers of the development of the green economy. This study was conducted to assess the impact of TI and DE on GED. In particular, the GED indicator was built from three components with the weight of each component evaluated by 9 experts in the field of economic development, digital technology, and innovation, then measured by the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Using panel data from 32 countries within 2015–2020 and the Generalized method of moments (GMM) estimation method through employing STATA software version 16.0, the research results show evidence to confirm the significant positive impact of TI and DE on GED of countries. At the same time, this study also assesses the impact of these factors on GED between two groups of middle-income (MI) and high-income (HI) countries to see what the different impacts are. The results of this study lead to recommendations on policy implications for GED and toward sustainable development of countries, including Vietnam.
