Abstract

This chapter starts with the concluding remarks the author made in his keynote speech “Monetary and Economic Policy: Then and Now” delivered at the Emile van Lennepvan Lennep, Emile Memorial Conference on a “Global Orderglobal order for Sustainable Economic Growth” held in Amsterdam in 1998. It then recounts the main points of the author’s article entitled “Looking for models in pursuit of economic prosperity” which was contributed to the 40th anniversary issue of the OECD Observer published in December 2002. Noting developments in world geopolitics since then, the chapter ends with a remark about the importance for new generations to learn from the mistakes made by previous generations.
