Abstract

This book chapter examines the world of crowdsourcing, which is an effective mechanism for harnessing the collective intelligence of diverse individuals to generate new ideas and solve problems. It explores various types of crowdsourcing, including idea-based crowdsourcing, crowdfunding, crowdvoting, and crowdcasting, and provides real-world examples to illustrate each. Managerial implications of crowdsourcing are also discussed, including the importance of effectively planning, communicating, and managing campaigns, as well as understanding participant motivations and risks associated with crowdsourcing. The chapter highlights crowdsourcing, including increased creativity, improved problem-solving, and cost savings, and advocating tailored campaigns and appropriate compensation for participants. Finally, the chapter concludes by discussing the future of crowdsourcing, underscoring the imperative for ongoing research to ensure its continued success as a valuable tool for organizations in driving innovation and growth. Overall, this chapter provides a comprehensive overview of crowdsourcing and its potential to transform the way organizations approach problem-solving and innovation.
