Abstract

Household Air Pollution coming from the incomplete combustion of cooking fuels such as firewood and solid biomass fuels is a serious environmental health issue, particularly in low-income countries. In this paper, we review the literature on the issue of household air pollution in developing and under-developed countries. We illustrate that several individual-specific as well as, supply-side factors influence the individuals' adoption of cleaner cooking fuels and/or technologies. In conclusion, we attempt to identify the knowledge gaps in this field and propose directions for future research.
