Abstract

This chapter delves into the burgeoning issue of the halal meat cartel and the controversies it has engendered, focusing particularly on the innovative role Blockchain technology could play in mitigating these challenges. The halal meat industry, pivotal to the dietary needs of the Muslim population, has been plagued by issues of transparency and authenticity, leading to widespread mistrust among consumers. This study proposes Blockchain technology as a transformative solution, offering unparalleled traceability and accountability in the supply chain. By leveraging the inherent features of Blockchain, such as decentralization, immutability, and transparency, this chapter argues that the technology can effectively combat fraudulent practices and ensure strict adherence to Islamic dietary laws. The analysis encompasses a comprehensive examination of Blockchain’s potential to revolutionize the halal meat supply chain, thereby restoring consumer confidence and integrity in the market. This exploration not only highlights the technological feasibility but also addresses the broader implications for stakeholders in the halal meat industry.
