Abstract

This chapter explores the development of a Shari’ah-compliant framework for integrating blue economy principles into Halal policies and standards to promote sustainability within the Halal industry. Using a narrative review method, the study synthesizes literature from various disciplines including Islamic jurisprudence, economic sustainability and environmental management. The review highlights the applicability of Maqasid al-Shari’ah in promoting ethical consumption, environmental protection and social justice in the Halal sector. The insightful findings that emerged show that halal supply chain management and blockchain technology improve transparency, sustainability and Shari’ah compliance. Furthermore, integrating blue economy principles into the halal sustainability industry presents both challenges and opportunities for sustainable development in halal industries such as seafood and tourism. The chapter affirms that the adoption of Shari’ah-compliant corporate governance frameworks can improve ethical business operations and the global competitiveness of the industry. By promoting a holistic approach that balances religious commitments with sustainability goals, the chapter concludes that the halal industry can achieve long-term environmental and social sustainability while adhering to Islamic teachings.
