Abstract

This chapter extensively explains how artificial intelligence (AI) affects society from different perspectives. It begins by outlining AI’s technical foundations, distinguishing between narrow AI and broader categories like machine learning and deep learning, which drive current technological advancements. This chapter then discusses several ethical considerations, highlighting privacy concerns, biases in AI algorithms, and the transparency of AI decision-making processes. Then the main societal impacts of AI are addressed, including job displacement due to automation, the increased economic divide, and challenges faced by marginalized communities. It also include case studies illustrating the benefits and risks associated with AI, from healthcare innovations to environmental applications as well as its potential misuse in surveillance and data security breaches. Moreover, the importance of developing robust regulatory frameworks and ethical guidelines to ensure AI’s responsible use. It concludes by emphasizing the need for public awareness and cooperation among international stakeholders to navigate the complex challenges AI presents while emphasizing the beneficial effects on society.
