Abstract

This book chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of ethical issues in smart supply chains and their implications for businesses. The study considers a wide range of concerns, including ethical dilemmas, security risks, privacy breaches, and operational challenges, which may lead to significant reputational damage for businesses. Emphasizing the need for a cross-cultural examination, this chapter investigates how ethical problems are perceived in the global supply chain context. The primary focus of the chapter is to address ethical dilemmas in smart supply chain management (Smart SCM), offering a detailed summary and discussion of critical ethical issues across various levels of the global supply chain. It highlights the conflict between the profit-driven motives of businesses and the essential values of moral behavior and social responsibility. Particular attention is given to labor and human rights concerns, stressing the necessity of ethical practices to eliminate forced labor, child labor, and unethical sourcing. The chapter discusses multiple frameworks, guidelines, and best practices that organizations can adopt to address these ethical challenges. It underscores the importance of cross-sector collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and responsible governance in fostering an ethical and smart supply chain. By examining the ethical issues associated with implementing smart technologies in supply chain management, this chapter aims to assist practitioners, policymakers, and academics in navigating these complexities. It supports the development of responsible and sustainable practices in smart SCM by identifying challenges and providing insights into potential solutions.
