Abstract

The Government of India launched ‘Make in India’ initiative in the year 2014 with the objective of making India a global manufacturing hub. In order to increase production, certain specific sectors were targeted including the electronics sector. Several policies were implemented for this sector in line with ‘Make in India.’ The purpose of this study is to determine whether the campaign has been successful with respect to the trade capacity of the electronics sector in India. We chose 46 items of six-digit HS code under the broad category of ‘electrical and electronics goods’ (HS code: 85) for our study. Our results show disparate trends in terms of exports and imports for different products.
