Abstract

The impact of COVID-19 on tourism industry is enormous. The proposed recovery will be a long process and driven by the radical measures in different countries on domestic and foreign travel. At the same time, the impacts of COVID-19 vary according to different countries located at different geographical locations. Therefore, the measure of its impact should be assessed independently for different regions to facilitate the strategic planning on recovery. In this work, we focus on studying the impacts on Europe and the United Kingdom. This work aims at quantifying the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry in Europe and the United Kingdom by predicting recovery using deep learning Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models in the scenario where the COVID-19 did not happen and comparing it with the actual performance of tourism industry in Europe and the United Kingdom in 2020. In this work, we mainly focus on three main components in tourism industry: aviation, hotels, and restaurant.
