Abstract

The construction of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) requires improvement of the land access from Kashgar in Xinjiang, China to Gwadar Port in western Pakistan. This logistics channel is of vital importance to CPEC, but its site selection has undergone twists and turns with the initial Eastern Route Plan finally replaced by the Western Route Plan. This chapter discusses several topics surrounding this matter and answer questions such as “Why does the western Pakistan, which is economically backward and has poor investment prospects, become the priority area for the passage construction?” “Can the Western Route Plan benefit the socio-economic development of China and Pakistan?”
