Abstract

The sustainability of existing healthcare systems is endangered by several societal development factors, such as the increase in unmet medical needs and rising healthcare service costs. This shows that there is a need for pragmatic change to defeat these threats to achieve the balance between the demand for care and the capacity to supply it. Medical entrepreneurial activities and innovations have been established from and will continue to be the driving actors along the healthcare value chain, especially from the traditional healthcare financing model to the nontraditional healthcare payment model. Upon providing a systematic review of the literature at macro, meso, and micro level issues on medical entrepreneurship and healthcare financing model, this study concluded that it is essential to develop a healthcare financing model that will promote and protect the health system to safeguard human welfare and sustain socioeconomic development.
