Abstract

Access to healthcare represents one of the most important determinants of the quality of life of people anywhere in the world but has remained an issue around the world. With the growing relevance of private sector participation, entrepreneurship is recognized as a viable instrument to ameliorate the inefficiencies and gaps that pose barriers to the healthcare access gap among people in many countries. Using theoretical sampling criteria of key healthcare industry clusters, this study reviews 50 examples of medical entrepreneurship to provide an exploratory understanding of how entrepreneurs use a combination of various aspects of business strategy to identify opportunities and address healthcare access gaps in various areas of the healthcare industry. Implications and suggestions for future action to researchers, educators and practitioners are presented.
