Abstract

This chapter examines the dynamic evolution of the innovation systems of two prominent industrial districts in Asia, namely Hsinchu in Taiwan and Suwon in Korea, and their respective core firms. It provides a detailed and dynamic analysis of their regional innovation system (RIS) using the extracted US patents and citation data. The focus is on knowledge creation and diffusion patterns and the concentration and diversification of innovation among firms in the regions. Our quantitative method can be considered as reflecting three core elements of RIS: actors, network and institution.
