Abstract

This chapter is devoted to the analysis of the activities of large oil and gas companies in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation (AZRF). At this stage, business is actively involved in the implementation of the goals and objectives regarding the socio-economic development of the Russian Arctic. Along with traditional economic activities, Russian companies actively implement social and environmental projects and support scientific research in the region. The chapter contains examples of projects of such companies as Gazprom and Rosneft, as well as Novatek and Lukoil, alongside examples of cooperation between Russian companies and foreign ones. The authors note that today a new model for the development of the Russian Arctic is being formed, involving not only the state, but also large companies focused on a more local, compact development of the AZRF.
