Abstract

Divergence among LICI and six select PLICs in term of their premium mobilisation, total investment and sectorial investments in the post-reform era has been analysed in this chapter. It is observed that the companies under consideration are significantly different from each another for these select parameters. LICI being the market leader projected an extra-ordinary performance in almost all the parameters. Impact of global economic recession on the select parameters has also been analysed in the following segment. Global economic recession in 2008–2009 significantly influenced the performances of those seven companies. Significant difference between public and private sector in terms of select parameters and impact of the sample companies on industry performance has also been analysed in this chapter. Ownership structure also has a significant impact on the performance of the companies for all the select parameters. When the performance of the individual companies was compared with the industry standards, it is observed that LICI significantly influences premium collection, IGOAS, II and OTAI of the industry, while ICICI has significant influence on the total investment of the industry.
