Abstract

In the 2010s, China became an important investor in Brazil, especially in the sector of electric energy. This chapter discusses how Chinese FDI is distributed in the Brazilian economy and how China’s firms learned to adapt and compete in the country, operating in Brazil’s complex legal framework. The chapter also deals with Brazilian investment in China—although it happens in a much smaller scale, it is important for the process of internationalization of Brazil’s companies. The last section debates the role of culture in the economic relationship between both countries, arguing that is helps to reduce the lack of mutual knowledge.
