Abstract

In general, it is the youth who consume and promote popular culture more than any other in the age of information abundance world. Popular culture is the accumulation of cultural products such as entertainment (music, sport, cinema, art), news, literature, fashion, cyberculture and mass media that are consumed by large section of the population. While considering Korean wave as a form of popular culture, the paper intended to look at the current trend of the wave among the youth of Northeast India. Anything to do with Korean be it serial, style, fashion, spa, music, dance, dress, etc. which are neither purely Korean tradition nor Western but the hybrid of both is considered Korean wave. What are the possible factors that led the youth to develop a craving towards Korean wave? How can the emergence and growth of Korean wave be linked with Act East Policy, which the government of India is keenly advocating? Can the growth of Korean wave in Northeast India have diplomatic implications? How has Korean wave promoted and popularized Korean language among the youth? How is the emergence of Korean wave affecting the identity and culture of the youth? These are some of the concerns that the paper aims to address.
