Protection of Sacred Tourism Sites, Festivals and Events in Bangladesh over Augmented Reality: An Experience of Cultural Heritage Based Tourism

Bangladesh is working with many challenges regarding the maintenance and progression of her historical places, resources and heritages and making them cynosure in front of the real world. Proper direction and guidance of the sacred tourist locations of the country could be one of the vital approaches of protecting those places. In order to shorten the existing challenges over the influence of the protection of historical resources and establishing an envisage atmosphere for the heretical buildings, the country has considered different probable solution such as elevations of sites, structures with digitalized systems, disposes of wind and water-resistant materials, fire-safe design, and emergency back-ups. The historical cities of the country also reinforce public infrastructure, elevating roads and bridges, energy usage, installing permeable pavements and green alleys, reconfiguring and narrowing sidewalks, modifying curbs and gutters, fortifying sewage systems, utilizing buffers and setbacks from seashores, and demolishing rickety buildings. According to the constitution of Bangladesh (Article XXIV), the state shall inevitably adopt measures for the protection against disfigurement, damage, or removal of all monuments, objects, or places of special artistic and historical importance or interest. We also have the 1968 Antiquities Act that provides the modes of protection and preservation of things that are part of our national history and heritage. In situ preservation of cultural heritage (CH) sometime finds difficult due to its nature, e.g., beach nourishment, weak communication etc. Digitalization through audio-visual elements, sound, or other sensory stimuli delivered via technology and virtualization through computer-stimulated environment of cultural heritage are often considered the best solution to display and monitor cultural properties. Digitalization aims to lift the added value of CH assets by reusing them in natural application environments (protection of CH, education, tourism industry, advertising, fashion, films, music, publishing, video games, and TV). Therefore, augmented reality enabled services will help in data acquisition, preservation and the new methods of visual effects representations of tangible or intangible assets and places as well as interoperable metadata forms that allow easy data exchange and archiving.
