Abstract

Why infrastructure has risen as one of the key target fields of China’s OFDI in Africa? This chapter leads the general ideas of the question and the purposes of the study. Under the negative environment of de-globalisation, the diversification of increasing needs of Africa widens another path for China to achieve its global investment improvement. Infrastructure construction is not only an urgent need for Africa’s economic take-off and structural transformation, but also the strength and experience of China. From the perspective of China’s OFDI, quality improvement of investment in Africa becomes the goal in concert with domestic requirement of high quality development. From the side of Africa, the key to Africa’s development is industrialisation, which is based on the continuous completion of infrastructure. The research will look into firm-level strategy to analyse the broader issues on Chinese firms investing in African countries and implications for political economy and development (national-level) based on applying the multinational theories and frameworks. The ability of Chinese MNEs to establish international operations may derive institutionally from the wider competitiveness of their home economy.
