Abstract

This chapter developes a theory of meaning which encapsulates the philosophical considerations behind all ten definitional issues identified and the axioms and definitional rules associated with them. This is done within the context of contemporary society and the current state of scientific knowledge, with consideration being given to the relative merits of clarity and ambiguity, the concept of qualia and the relationship of mathematics to the definitional problem.
