Abstract

Entrepreneurial activities among the indigenous community have been coming down from generation to generation with the involvement of the family. The female entrepreneur’s productiveness or unproductiveness in their business depend upon the nature and behaviour of the family. This chapter explore the role of family towards the female entrepreneur by displaying both positive and neetive aspects. Employing ethnography approach, this chapter narrates first-hand experiences of female entrepreneurs who makes pottery products by themselves and sale the products at their retail pottery shop. This chapter also extend to embrace the aspect of balancing family responsibilities with business activities. The overall result highlighted that norm and custom of an indigenous community may allow ‘only female member’ to take part in specific entrepreneurial activities and earn from it. This study also provides cultural orientation perspective that is unavoidable in understanding the relationship between family and its relationship with the female entrepreneur as well as their business.
