Design of Social Isolation Index

Abstract

Social indicators are statistics that allow us to understand the current situation and changes in the social system to implement appropriate interventions. Current social indicators have a problem of lack of measurement frequency, and it is impossible to grasp people’s well-being in real-time. To address this issue, monitoring social conditions using big data is expected to complement the role of the social indicators. In this chapter, on the basis of the analysis of research on present social indicators and social monitoring by big-data analysis, we propose index requirements for a social isolation index using big-data analysis as one case of future use.
