Abstract

This chapter draws on the examples of two well-performing SIDS, Mauritius and Singapore, to provide strategic lessons for vulnerable SIDS on strategies that can help overcome their inherent vulnerabilities and promote economic development. The chapter concludes that building human and institutional capacities, boosting exports and infrastructure development, and promoting foreign direct investment and industrialization under a strong public–private sector institutional partnership are the key for fostering economic resilience and achieving sustainable development.
