Abstract

The measurement of inequality in the status of human development inevitably takes the status of education into its fold. The level of educational attainment is, directly and indirectly, related to almost all the parameters of development. The present study uses the Mean Years of Schooling (MYS) for the population aged 25 years & more as the indicator for the level of attainment as proposed by the UN Institute of Statistics (2012). The non-spatial analysis of educational inequality has been accomplished by calculating the MYS of the population disaggregated by required non-spatial classes. For the spatial analysis, the fuzzy logic has been utilized and the spatially linked variables determining the status of educational attainment have been considered as input variables. The validation has been done by correlating the model output with the observed values. The mapping of favorability of educational attainment and the susceptibility of school drop-out has been done, and the spatial pattern of inequality of the attainment has been interpreted.
