Abstract

Over 60 million children in Bangladesh live in hazardous conditions and are deprived of their basic needs. Despite the increasingly stable and growing economy in Bangladesh, half of these children continue to live below the poverty line. Bangladesh lacks good governance, poverty, political stability and many other factors, which hamper the rights of children. In this context, this chapter qualitatively examines the rights of children, child laws and child welfare policy through a systematic review of published data. Recommendations to improve the conditions of these children through child welfare policies in Bangladesh are deliberated in this chapter. The study will benefit policy makers, academia and social policy practitioners by presenting new theoretical underpinnings on the child rights and welfare particularly for a developing country like Bangladesh.
