Abstract

Zusammenfassung Ein komplexes System ist charakterisiert durch seine Unüberschaubarkeit und Unvorhersehbarkeit. Die Strategien zum Umgang mit Komplexität haben folglich das gemeinsame Ziel, das System so zu vereinfachen, dass es überschaubar und prognosefähig wird. Daher bauen die bereits vorgestellten Strategien aufeinander auf: Der zentrale Schritt ist das Verstehen der Komplexität, erst danach kann sie beherrscht oder sogar gestaltet werden. Das Beherrschen eines Systems erfolgt dabei durch Schaffung eines Models, das einfacher als das Ursprungssystem ist und dennoch alle relevanten Systemelemente und deren Verknüpfungen beinhaltet. In diesem Kapitel gehen wir auf diese Modellierung tiefer ein. Neben vielen Beispielen für Modelle sehen wir auch, wann und wie man Modell und Realität voneinander unterscheidet – was nicht immer so einfach ist, wie es klingt.
