Abstract

Zusammenfassung Bei Komplexität handelt es sich in erster Linie um ein Phänomen, welches wir beschreiben und charakterisieren können. Doch die Herausforderungen liegen weniger in der Komplexität an sich begründet als vielmehr in den Auswirkungen auf die mit ihr konfrontierten Personen. Denn oftmals wird Komplexität selbst gar nicht wahrgenommen, schon gar nicht als Problem! Wir beobachten vielmehr eine Vielzahl anderer Missstände, die augenscheinlich nichts miteinander zu tun haben, und die sich trotzdem im Hintergrund auf das Vorhandensein komplexer Systeme zurückführen lassen. In diesem Kapitel betrachten wir zunächst die Fragestellung, warum Komplexität zu Problemen führt. Anschließend beschäftigen wir uns mit drei grundlegenden Strategien für den Umgang mit Komplexität, namentlich den Schritten »verstehen«, »beherrschen« und »gestalten«. Den Abschluss bildet eine kurze Übersicht über weitere Herangehensweisen für den Umgang mit Komplexität.
