Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die grundlegende Theorie des Innovator’s Dilemma des ehemaligen Harvard-Professors Clayton M. Christensen hat in letzter Zeit enorm an Popularität gewonnen. Der Begriff Innovator bezieht sich auf etablierte Unternehmen, die im Sinne ihrer Aufgaben grundsätzlich alles richtig machen, dadurch aber neuen Angreifern machtlos gegenüberstehen. Dabei sind disruptive Entwicklungen besonders gefährlich. Das Phänomen existiert in seinen Grundzügen bereits seit rund 25 Jahren, bekommt jedoch aufgrund der besonderen Dynamik durch digitale Technologien z. B. bei Plattformen im Zusammenhang mit einem agilen Innovationsmanagement eine besondere Relevanz – sowohl für die etablierten Unternehmen als auch für Angreifer, z. B. Start-ups. Durch die Erweiterungen des Autors besteht das grundlegende Dilemma zwar weiter, kann jedoch durch geeignete Maßnahmen in gewissem Maße aufgelöst werden, sodass es, das ist die gute Nachricht vorab, doch Auswege aus der scheinbar unvermeidbaren Zwickmühle geben kann.
