Abstract

Zusammenfassung Abgesehen von einigen Spitzfindigkeiten sind „Vorurteile“ und „Stereotypisierungen“ weitgehend bedeutungsgleich. Der feine Unterschied ist, dass es etwas vornehmer ist, seine Urteile auf Stereotypen zu gründen statt auf Vorurteilen. Denn Vorurteile sind in unserem Kulturkreis negativ besetzt: Sie werden zu schnell und ohne kritische Prüfung gefasst, beschränken sich auf nur einen oder sehr wenige besonders augenfällige Aspekte eines komplexen Menschen oder einer Gruppe von Menschen. Andere (vielleicht wichtige) Gesichtspunkte werden ausgeblendet. So werden Menschen in Schubladen sortiert, aus denen Sie nur noch schwer herausfinden. Dies kann einerseits zu Konflikten führen – muss es aber nicht. Ohne Vorurteile und die dadurch erfolgenden Vereinfachungen wäre menschliche Interaktion gar nicht in dem Maß und der Qualität denkbar, wie wir es gewohnt sind.
