Abstract

Zusammenfassung Kinder und Teenager, die eine bedeutende Zeit ihres Lebens im Ausland verbringen, erleben dies in den meisten Fällen als sehr bereichernd. Gleichzeitig ist es für sie herausfordernd, immer wieder zwischen Abschied und Ankunft zu stehen. Ihre Erfahrungen unterscheiden sich deutlich von denen gleichaltriger Kinder, die nur in ihrem Herkunftsland aufwachsen. Da die Kindheit mit die prägendste Zeit des Lebens ist, haben Auslandserfahrungen starke Auswirkungen auf die Identitätsentwicklung eines Kindes. In diesem Beitrag untersuchen wir, wie Kinder die Zeit im Ausland wahrnehmen und welche psychologischen und sozialen Phänomene dabei eine Rolle spielen. Wir zeigen an praktischen Beispielen auf, wie Eltern und weitere Bezugspersonen Kinder wirksam bei der Identitätsentwicklung unterstützen können. Es wird deutlich, dass jedes Kind im Alltag, auch und vielleicht gerade in Übergangsprozessen, an innerer Stärke dazugewinnen und wachsen kann.
