Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Kryptologie ist die Wissenschaft von der Ver- und Entschlüsselung von Informationen und den dazu eingesetzten Methoden. Kryptografie (aus dem griechischen „kryptós“ für geheim oder verborgen und „gráphein“ für Schrift) ist eine Untergruppe der Kryptologie, die die Schaffung von Methoden zur Verschlüsselung von Informationen beschreibt, sodass sie von Unbefugten nicht verstanden werden können. Die Steganografie bezieht sich auf Methoden zur Verschleierung des Kommunikationskanals, über den kryptografisch verschlüsselte Nachrichten gesendet werden. Die Kryptoanalyse, eine weitere wichtige Sparte der Kryptologie, befasst sich mit Methoden zur Entschlüsselung von kryptografisch verschlüsselten Informationen ohne die Zustimmung der Person, die die ursprüngliche Nachricht verschlüsselt hat. Während also ein Kryptograf Informationen so verändert, dass sie unverständlich erscheinen, macht der Kryptoanalytiker diese Informationen, meist ohne Erlaubnis, wieder verständlich.
