Abstract

Digitalization has fundamentally changed the working world since the mid-twentieth century. The working world and value creation can be redefined. It is now possible, in principle, to work from any location in the world, as the tools are available everywhere. A look at the foundations of the modern working world highlights the potentials that are emerging. Digital communication demands an adaptation of previous ways of thinking. A new model for designing digital work forms that are as efficient as possible while also being emotionally engaging is presented. The workplace as a physically clearly addressable location for work completion is losing its distinctiveness. Concepts of home office or teleworking have been discussed for several decades, but technology alone is not sufficient for effective value creation processes. The other central levers for productive work environments are elaborated and addressed in this chapter.
