Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Beibehaltung des Geldwertes ist eine der wichtigsten Aufgaben der Ökonomie. Die größten Wirtschaftskrisen des vergangenen Jahrhunderts sind eng verbunden mit drastischen Veränderungen der Kaufkraft des Geldes. Begriffe, wie ‚Hyperinflation‘ und ‚Deflation‘ stehen für Massenarbeitslosigkeit und Verelendung ganzer Nationen. Besonders auch die Menschen in Deutschland erlebten die Folgen starker Preisveränderungen. Sowohl die Hyperinflation in den Jahren 1922/1923 als auch die große Deflation Ende der 20er-Jahre/Anfang der 30er-Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts brachten Not und Elend über die Menschen. Diese Erfahrungen haben schließlich ihren Niederschlag in Gesetzen gefunden – etwa im ‚Gesetz zur Förderung der Stabilität und des Wachstums der Wirtschaft‘ (sog. Stabilitätsgesetz 1967) oder im Gesetz der für die Deutsche Bundesbank von 1957, in dem die Unabhängigkeit der Deutschen Bundesbank und das Ziel „die Währung zu sichern“ (§ 3) festgelegt wurden. Mit der Einführung des Euro wurde diese Aufgabe wie in Kap. 3 beschrieben auf die EZB und die nationalen Zentralbanken des Euroraums übertragen.
