Abstract

Zusammenfassung Zu den großen Herausforderungen der Menschheit gehört seit jeher der Umgang mit technischen Errungenschaften. Diese haben schon immer für gesellschaftliche Entwicklung und Wohlstand gesorgt, bergen aber auch Risiken, die oft erst in der Rückschau erkennbar werden. Seit dem 18. Jahrhundert haben sich die technologischen Entwicklungen so verdichtet, dass wir von mehreren Phasen der Industriellen Revolution sprechen, die ganze Gesellschaften sowie das Machtgefüge auf der Welt umfassend verändert haben. Aktuell befinden wir uns wieder in einer Situation monumentaler, technologisch getriebener Umwälzungen, die mit einer nie dagewesenen Geschwindigkeit auf uns einwirken. Um die Chancen dieser Vierten Industriellen Revolution zu nutzen, bedarf es einer zielorientierten Anwendung der damit einhergehenden technologischen Möglichkeiten sowie einer rechtzeitigen Antizipation und Kontrolle potenzieller Gefahren.
