Abstract

Zusammenfassung Um die schlimmsten Folgen des Klimawandels abzuwenden, müssen die CO2 Emissionen rasch auf Netto-Null sinken. Wie wirksam ist das Emissionshandelssystem der EU? CO2 Steuern und die Preise für Emissionsrechte geben der Umwelt einen Preis und machen Emissionen kostspielig. Die Firmen können Altes nutzen oder Neues erfinden. Der Einsatz existierender Technologien verspricht schnelle, aber begrenzte Erfolge. Neue Innovationen dauern länger, aber wirken umso nachhaltiger. Die Forschungsarbeit zeigt, wie die Einführung des Emissionshandels in der EU die grünen Innovationen beflügelt. Das senkt die Kosten für die Eindämmung der Emissionen und steigert die Chance, ehrgeizige Klimaziele zu erreichen.
