Abstract

Zusammenfassung Seit der globalen Finanzkrise 2008 sind die Zinsen in der Eurozone und vielen anderen Industriestaaten sehr niedrig. Anders als von manchen Ökonomen erwartet, führten die langanhaltend tiefen Zinsen zumindest bisher kaum zu nennenswert höheren Preisen. Im Gegenteil, die Inflation lag meist sogar unter dem Ziel der Zentralbanken. Wie kann man dieses Inflationsrätsel erklären? Eine wichtige Rolle spielen «Zombie Firmen». Sie sind wenig produktiv, hochverschuldet und überleben nur dank tiefer Zinsen. Dennoch steigert ihre Produktion das Güterangebot, was die Preise niedrig hält.
