Abstract

The HARTING case deals with a typical challenge faced by hidden champions: recruiting and securing skilled workers. The family-managed HARTING Technology Group is a leading international supplier of industrial connection technology with 15 production sites and 44 sales companies worldwide. The German company’s head office is located in the rural area of “Ostwestfalen,” from where the group is managed and culturally shaped by the owning family’s deeply rooted values. The case illustrates how a HR business partner approach enables a consistent HR policy and a clear corporate culture worldwide, while at the same time being open to the needs and requirements of the individual business areas and national cultures. Students can discuss how a consistent HR approach allows hidden champions to use new recruitment methods to select talented and skilled workers worldwide.
