Abstract

Zusammenfassung Mit dem Ukrainekrieg hat der russische Präsident Wladimir Putin jene politischen und wirtschaftlichen Bande zerschnitten, die seit dem Zerfall der Sowjetunion zwischen Russland, den übrigen Nachfolgestaaten und dem restlichen Europa aufgebaut worden sind. Der Krieg und das Stopp-Signal des Westens in Form von Sanktionen ziehen nun eine tiefe politische und wirtschaftliche Furche durch Europa und bedingen dort neuerlich eine Grenze, die den Osten vom Westen trennt. Damit kommt zu dem noch lange nicht überwundenen Nord-Süd-Gefälle, das die Eurokrise charakterisierte, nun auch eine politische und wirtschaftliche Kluft zwischen West und Ost, also zwischen (halbwegs) demokratisch organisierten Ländern und Autokratien. Innerhalb der EU herrscht eine überwältigende Unterstützung der Ukraine in ihrem Überlebenskampf, gepaart mit dem Bewusstsein, dass eine glaubwürdige Sicherheitspolitik der Union auf die NATO-Partnerschaft angewiesen ist.
