USA und Europa: entfesselter und sozial gebändigter Kapitalismus

Abstract

Zusammenfassung Europa und die USA sind beides demokratische Staaten mit einem kapitalistischen Wirtschaftssystem. Die Ausprägung des Kapitalismus ist jedoch derart unterschiedlich, dass man von zwei unterschiedlichen Kapitalismustypen sprechen muss. Die Hauptunterschiede zwischen Europa und den USA liegen in der Rolle des Staates und in der Organisation der Märkte. Der amerikanische Staat fokussiert auf die klassischen staatlichen Aufgaben wie Sicherheit und Rechtsordnung; der Wohlfahrtsstaat ist wenig ausgebaut („entfesselter Kapitalismus“). In Europa wird der Staat als Garant für das „Gemeinwohl“ betrachtet: Er ergänzt und korrigiert das kapitalistische Wirtschaftssystem so, dass alle Bevölkerungsgruppen gleichermaßen Zugang zu Bildung, Gesundheit, Infrastrukturen, Kultur usw. haben („sozial gebändigter Kapitalismus“).
