Abstract

Zusammenfassung Nach Definitionen und Abgrenzungen des Begriffs „Design Research“ zu verwandten Konzepten in Design, Designwissenschaft und Ingenieurwissenschaften erörtert der Beitrag mögliche Vorgehensweisen und ihre Begrenzungen für Forschungsprojekte sowie für wissenschaftliche Abschlüsse in Designfächern. Dabei wird das Vorgehen als „Research through Design“ im Gegensatz zu anderen Auslegungen verstanden. Auf Basis von in der Literatur besprochenen Herangehensweisen wird ein Vorgehensmodell für „Design Research“ abgeleitet und vorgestellt, in dessen Zentrum die Umsetzung von Designprototypen steht. Die resultierenden Forschungsdaten bestehen aus diesen sogenannten Artefakten, zusammen mit empirischen Daten aus deren Evaluation sowie abgeleiteten Hypothesen und Theoriebeiträgen. Diese positionieren die Ergebnisse innerhalb des Stands der Wissenschaft und können diesen erweitern. Abschließend wird beispielhaft ein entsprechender Projektablauf eines interdisziplinären Augmented-Reality-Forschungsprojekts beschrieben.
