Abstract

Zusammenfassung Non-Profit-Organisationen (NPOs) stehen in der Gesellschaft für hohe ethische Werte. Ihre Legitimation basiert darauf, dass sie sich für das Gemeinwohl einsetzen. Doch wie können diese hohen und oft sehr konträren Erwartungen ihrer StakeholderInnen in die Realität umgesetzt werden? Dieses Kapitel befasst sich mit genau dieser Frage. Es hilft dabei, die Besonderheiten und Gesichtspunkte von Non-Profit-Organisationen besser zu verstehen. Es beschäftigt sich mit den unterschiedlichen Rollen, die NPOs zugeschrieben werden, mit ihren Charakteristiken und Tätigkeitsfeldern, mit ihrer wichtigen Bedeutung als ArbeitgeberInnen sowie mit der Frage nach den Finanzierungsformen und den damit verbundenen Sachzwängen. Das Kapitel schließt mit fünf Thesen, die Problembereiche von NPOs kritisch beleuchten und liefert dazu erste Lösungsansätze.
