Abstract

The interactivity and participation possibilities of the Internet offer considerable potential for net media as journalistic offerings. However, journalistic online offerings are under economic pressure. Their revenue situation is often unsatisfactory. Social networks compete with attractive content and can often attract more advertising customers. In terms of time, the new journalistic ecosystem shaped by the Internet is still in an early phase. New journalistic offerings will have to make use of the community principle and network effects in order to find a larger audience on the Internet.
